SHANGHAI: Audi has announced a third take in its new Prologue concept series, lifting the lid on the high-riding Allroad version in Shanghai.

Joining its earlier coupe and Avant wagon siblings, the Prologue Allroad takes that second concept and sets the whole thing on stilts.

As with the existing A4 Allroad and A6 Allroad models, this new crossover SUV enters as a lightly ruggedised version of the existing Prologue Avant concept.

A 77mm taller suspension package is the standout difference, although light protective cladding has also been added to the wheel arches, bumpers and door sills.

Power is again provided by a plug-in hybrid system, pairing a 4.0 litre turbo V8 with an electric motor for a combined 547kW and 900Nm of torque.

The electric motor is packaged inside an eight-speed auto, and power is sent to the ground through a Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

And while that powertrain is undoubtedly a preview of production systems to come, the big takeaway with these Prologue concepts is the glimpse they offer into Audi’s styling future.

All three concepts build on Audi’s familiar look of sharp edges and tight angles, and the wagon versions in particular could be a view of plans to join Mercedes in the ‘shooting brake’ category.
