CANBERRA: Which country has shipped more LNG to Mexico—the United States or Australia? Believe it or not, Australia has delivered three cargoes to Manzanilla on Mexico’s west coast compared to Sabine Pass’ two cargoes. “It’s more interesting that only one Sabine Pass cargo has gone to north Asia so far but three Gladstone cargoes have gone to Mexico and one to Argentina,” said Graeme Bethune, CEO, EnergyQuest.
However most Australian LNG cargoes are going to northern Asia, as expected. “India isn’t a big market for Australia although a few cargoes have gone there. So far most U.S. cargoes have gone to South America. Australia’s exports to China are under long-term contracts. The largest Chinese contracts are with CNOOC and Sinopec, both of which also have large equity stakes in Australian projects,” he explained.
