Australia has a shrinking appetite for NZ Inc goods

CANBERRA: Australia remains New Zealand’s largest trading partner, with the relationship making up 17.6 per cent of total two-way trade.

But China is not far behind, with a 16.8 per cent share of New Zealand’s total two-way trade.

In 2008, New Zealand was the first country in the world to enter into a free trade agreement with China.

According to a recent report, trade between New Zealand and Australia is among the most paperless in Asia and the Pacific.

The value of goods that Australia imports from New Zealand has declined $1.1 billion since 2012, Statistics New Zealand data shows.

Stats NZ data on the value of trade between the two countries found New Zealand imported $11.9b worth of goods and services from Australia in 2017.

Australia imported $13.6b in goods and services from New Zealand the same year.
