SYDNEY: Australian stocks opened higher on Tuesday, buoyed by signs of progress in the Greek debt talks and strong gains on Wall Street overnight.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 gained 0.96 percent to 5,664.3 points, joined by the broader All Ordinaries index which rallied 0.91 percent to 5,654.1 at the market opening.
Optimism surrounding a fresh Greek debt deal saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average add 0.6 percent to 18,120, matched by the S&P 500 index lifting 0.6 percent to 2,123 in overnight trade which spurred the gains on the Australian bourse.
CMC Markets chief market analyst Michael McCarthy told Business Spectrum on Tuesday the global markets appeared to be hopeful of a solution to Greece’s debt woes.
