KARACHI: In order to give relief taxpayers, it has been proposed that automatic stay will be available in sales tax recovery if a taxpayer pays 25 percent of demand.

The Finance Bill 2017 proposed to add a proviso to Section 48 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, which deals with the recovery of arrears of tax whereby the taxpayer would have an option to avail automatic stay after payment of 25 percent of the tax due in the cases where the appeal is filed before the Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals) under section 45B of the Act.
