ISLAMABAD: Supermodel Ayyan Ali has moved the Supreme Court against the interior ministry for allegedly delaying the case and prolonging her ‘detention’ in the country.

The model requested the court to fix the case for hearing preferably on December 22 as she has to go to Dubai for her recording and photo sessions. Ayyan said she would have to pay $10 million to the company if she does not reach Dubai.

Earlier, the court while hearing petitions filed by the Interior Ministry and Ayyan Ali had ruled to omit her name from the Exit Control List (ECL). The court had allowed her to go on foreign tours.

Due to the non-implementation of the court’s ruling, Ayyan filed contempt of court against the government. Her application had highlighted the verdict given by the SC in the currency smuggling case and cited her mother’s illness and business commitments for urgency in the matter.

Ayyan was held in March last year at Islamabad airport for allegedly trying to smuggle $506,800 to the UAE. The Airport Security Force (ASF) had apprehended her before she boarded a private airline’s flight. After almost nine months of her arrest, the model was indicted in the currency smuggling case but she pleaded not guilty to the charges.
