Following a tip-off by the anti-narcotic department at the Ministry of Information led to the discovery of the drugs, after which the defendants were arrested.

Both were also fined $8,000 (BD 3,000) each. The Thai woman also received an additional six months’ jail sentence after she failed a drug test. The Kingdom of Bahrain has one of the strictest anti-drugs laws in the region.

In 2014, Al Arabiya News Channel documented the efforts of Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior in the arrest and capture of one of the most active drug cartels in the Gulf during a six-month mission.
