Bajwa urges field formation collectorates to stop tax evasion, under-invoicing, miss-declaration

KARACHI: The Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Tariq Bajwa and Member Customs Nisar Muhammad Ali Khan on Tuesday visited the Custom House Karachi.

Both the high officials of the FBR held meetings with the customs officers of the South Region, including Sindh and Balochistan provinces at 5th floor of the Custom House. The meetings were attended by the Chief Collector Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem, Chief Collector Appraisement-South Nasir Masroor Ahmed, Collector MCC Appraisement-West Muhammad Saleem, Collector MCC Appraisement-East Manzoor Hussain Memon, Collector MCC Appraisement Port Muhammad Bin Qasim Surriya Butt, Collector Gwadar Dr Jawwad Owais Agha, Collector MCC Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, Collector MCC Quetta, Director of the Directorate of Reforms and Automation Abdul Majid Yousfani, Director General of the Directorate of Transit Trade Khawar Farid Maneka, Collector of Customs Adjudication-I Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi, Collector of Customs Adjudication-II Dr Saifuddin Memon and others officers.

During the meetings, the issues pertaining to revenue collection and anti-smuggling activities were discussed. On the occasion, FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa and Member Customs Nisar Muhammad Ali Khan stressed the officials to ensure revenue collection as per the targets set by the FBR for the fiscal year 2014-15.

Both the FBR high officials asked the customs officers to ensure proper and effective strategy in order to achieve the revenue targets and curb smuggling of contraband items from all borders linked with the South Region.

The FBR chairman and Member Customs lauded the performance of the Enforcement South Region in connection with the record destruction of contraband items worth billions of rupees on the occasion of the World Customs Day and asked the officers to carry on their efforts with the same zeal and enthusiasm. Both the FBR high officials also lauded the efforts of field formation Collectorates for surpassing the revenue targets in the first month of the third quarters of the fiscal year 2014-15.

FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa urged the collectors of field formation collectorates to ensure stoppage of revenue leakages in terms of tax evasion, under-invoicing and miss-declaration. He also asked the customs officers to keep a close eye on the crook officials who are involved in tarnishing the image of the Pakistan Customs.

On the occasion, Member Customs Nisar Muhammad Ali Khan reviewed the performance of the Collectorates of Customs Adjudication-I and II in order to dispose of the pending cases. He asked the Collectors of the Customs Adjudication-I and II to ensure disposal of cases before reaching to their expiry and continue their efforts for contributing in improving the revenue status of the department.

On the occasion, the Collectors of the field formation Collectorates briefed FBR high officials about the current status of the revenue collection and ensured that the Collectorates will continue to achieve and surpass the revenue targets till the end of the fiscal year2014-15. It was the first meeting of the FBR high officials after transfer of the officers of Grade-19 and Grade-20 in Pakistan Customs Service (PCS).

Later, the Chairman FBR Tariq Bajwa and Member Customs Nisar Muhammad Ali Khan held meeting with the Olympians of Pakistan Customs which was followed by the lunch at Directorate General of Training and Research (DGTR).

Olympians Samiullah, Abdul Waheed Khan, Hanif Khan, Waseem Feroz, Islahuddin, Farhat Khan, Squash legend Jan Sher Khan and others were present on the occasion.

During the meeting, the Olympians appealed FBR high officials to take effective measures towards uplifting of national game Hockey at departmental level. They also asked the FBR chairman and Member Customs to ensure induction of fresh blood on sports quota in the Pakistan Customs to make the national game stronger at the departmental level.
