Balochistan NAB interrogated 100 cases of corruption in 2017

QUETTA: Over 100 cases of embezzlement including corruption were investigated and 36 accused were sentenced through Accountability Court after finding them in involvement of corruption in 2017 by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

According to Spokesman of Balochistan NAB, NAB had added Rs2 billion to the national exchequer after recovering money from possession of corrupt persons. He said NAB was interrogating 890 government employees who had reduced their ages through fake process.

About Rs70 billion in Gwadar, Rs4.8 million in Quetta were embezzled on the pretext of price of commercial plots as they were sold out at low prices and added that further investigation was also underway from Ex Commissioner Quetta, ex- Deputy Commissioner Quetta and other concerned deportment by NAB, he said.

Then Additional Director MSD Balochistan, former MD WASA Hamid Latif Rana and other officials were arrested in case of embezzlement, a case of purchasing medical machines for patients, he noted.

He said corruption cases were appeared in different departments of Balochistan including Excise and Taxation, Health, Education, AG Office and local government in 2017, of which investigation was under process.

Commissioner Office’s Superintendent Talat Ishaq and former secretary finance Mushtaq Raisani’s applications of plea bargaining were rejected in 2017, he said.

He said the case of embezzlement of fund of Gwadar desalination plant and corruption case of embezzlement of fund of scholarship of derserving students were being probed.

NAB took action against 11 people in involvement of corruption in energy sectors including solar system, while mines and building contractor also was arrested in case of embezzlement, he said adding that investigation was also underway against Sports Department, he added.

He said several bureaucrats were apprehended over illegal allotment of government assets.

NAB had organized awareness programmes in various department against corruption including speech holding, short films, posters, which were participated by a large number of students including girl students from various educational institutions in 2017.

Director General NAB Balochistan Irfan Mangi said practical measures were being taken to remove corruption from province and urged citizen to play their due role in this regard.
