DHAKA: Bangladesh Customs Intelligence seized an Audi-R8 from Banani as the vehicle importer falsified papers to evade Tk15.47cr in taxes.
According to details, customs intelligence lodged a case with Dhanmondi police against Dewan Sajedur Rahman, proprietor of Auto 1, who imported the Audi car.
Dewan reportedly paid Tk1.79cr in bribes to hide the real engine capacity of the car, which is 5200 CC, in order to have it passed off as a 2500 CC engine. Assistant tax officer Bijoy Kumar Roy from CI filed the case under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
The luxurious sports car was manufactured in 2011, but the papers falsely stated that the car was manufactured in 2013. The car was imported from the UK.
