DHAKA: Bangladesh Customs Intelligence seized 1.75 kilogram of gold from a passenger from Dubai at Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka.
According to details, the passenger, Mohammad Mannan Mia, landed in Dhaka at on a Biman Bangladesh flight from Dubai via Oman, DG Customs Intelligence Moinul Khan said.
After completing immigration procedures and collecting his luggage, the passenger was intercepted just before going through the green channel. He was escorted to the customs baggage counter on the basis of a secret tip-off.
A thorough search of his luggage in the presence of various agencies revealed five makeshift, false compartments beneath the trolley. The compartments were made with aluminum foil and taped to the trolley.
Each compartment contained with five gold bars, with a total of 15 gold bars. The bars weigh a total of 1.75 kilogram. The confiscated gold is valued at approximately Tk70 lakh.
The apprehended passenger is a driver by profession and has said that he drives for a living in Dubai. He is originally from Chauddagram, Comilla.
