DHAKA: Customs officials have seized foreign currencies worth around Tk1.65 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Customs Authorities Assistant Commissioner Al Amin said: “Acting on a tip off, we conducted a drive at the airport’s Export Cargo Village area and seized the foreign currencies onThursday morning.”
He said: “The currencies were supposed to be flown to Singapore on a flight of Regent Airways. They were kept in a vegetable carton.”
The currencies include 6.5 lakh Saudi Riyal, 47,000 Dirham, Euro 10,900 and 3000 Dinar.
The official said: “An organisation named Dhaka Trading Link was sending the currencies to Singapore in the name of vegetables. We are investigating the matter.”
