DHAKA: Bangladesh’s imports surged 4.40percent to 33.38 billion in the first 10 months of the 2015-16fiscal year (July 2015-June 2016). According to statistics of the Bangladesh Bank (BB), thesettlement of letters of credit (LCs), generally known as actualimports, stood at 33,375.56 million U.S. dollars in July-Aprilperiod of the current fiscal year compared to 31,967.95 millionU.S. dollars in the same period a year earlier. Overall import orders, however, fell by 1.99 percent inJuly-April period of the current fiscal year, showed the BBdata.
The overall import orders, officially known as fresh opening ofimport letters of credit (LCs), decreased to 35,112.86 milliondollars in July-April against 35,825.77 million dollars in the sameperiod of the last 2014-15 fiscal year (July 2014-June 2015), itshowed.
