DHAKA: Tea prices in Bangladesh fell about 1 percent at the weekly auction on Tuesday as the volumes on offer rose to its highest level so far this season. Bangladesh tea fetched an average of 229.14 taka ($2.80) per kg at the auction, the 22nd of the current marketing season, down from 231.99 taka at the previous sale.
There was tepid demand from local buyers, an official of the National Brokers said. About 2.5 million kg were offered at the sole auction centre in Chittagong, of which about 15 percent went unsold. In the previous auction, about 5.2 percent of the 2.4 million kg of tea on offer was unsold.
