DHAKA: Customs intelligence officials seized a large quantity of smuggled cigarettes worth Tk 5.0 million at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Sunday morning. Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Moinul Khan said the customs officials in two separate drives seized 171,400 sticks of Benson, Esse, Dunhill and 303 brand cigarettes worth Tk 5 million.
Acting on a tip-off, they arrested Md Mamun Uddin from the belt area of the airport along with 153 cartons or 30,600 sticks of the cigarettes. Mamun arrived in Dhaka around 6:00 am by a flight of Qatar Airways.
