KARACHI: The deposits of the banking system have decreased by 4.2 percent to Rs10.73 trillion by end of February 2017 as compared with Rs11.2 trillion when compared with December 31, 2016.
According to data released by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Tuesday the deposits by end February 2017 are higher than the stock of Rs9.38 trillion as on February 2016.
Banking experts attributed it to seasonal decline saying that banks accumulate deposits in the month of December to improve their balance sheets.
Investment of the banking sector, however, increased to Rs7.46 trillion by end-February 2017 as compared with Rs7.23 trillion in December 2016.
On the other hand, loan portfolio also decreased to Rs5.47 trillion by February 2017 as compared with Rs5.57 trillion as on December 31, 2016.
