Osakwe said that a total of 127.9kg of the illicit drugs were recovered along the Bayelsa State end of the East-West Road by the command’s operatives on patrol.

Though Osakwe did not indicate the number of arrests made during the seizure, he disclosed that the cannabis was seized while being ferried in an unmarked Honda saloon car.

“It may be recalled that just last month (July 2015), an unmarked 16-wheel petroleum tanker yielded the seizure of 116.3kg of Cannabis Sativa along the same route.

“The command is continuously vigilant and poised to arrest all illegal drug dealers and mop up all illicit drugs transiting through or found within the state. We will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anybody connected with the illegal trade.

“Members of the public are encouraged to report any illegal drug activities around them to the state command for prompt intervention.

He urged parents and guardians to enlighten themselves on issues of drug abuse and trafficking and monitor the activities of their children and wards.
