NEW YORK: The news that one of northern Beaufort County’s larger employers is shuttering comes during a period of transition for local government’s economic development efforts, with no immediate mechanism to help keep businesses.
Beaufort County is moving forward with finding a director for a county economic development corporation after its partner, Low country Economic Alliance, folded earlier this year.
The city of Beaufort is reorganizing its Redevelopment Commission and plans to hire a business and economic development director to lead the group made up of City Council members and appointees.
Global giant Parker Hannifin is ending operations at its Racor division on Parker Drive by the end of the year, consolidating manufacturing with plants in other states. The move affects 57 fulltime employees.
