MINSK: Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has instructed the State Customs Committee to improve performance in customs clearance stations, BelTA learned from Chairman of the State Customs Committee Yuri Senko after he met with the head of state. The head of Belarus’ Customs reminded that improving the country’s transit appeal is one of the tasks of the customs service. “To do that, we need impeccable work of the customs clearance stations at the border and inside the country.
The head of state wants all the traffic that goes through Belarus to experience no difficulties from the point of view of comfort, speed, and quality of service,” said Yuri Senko. During the meeting Alexander Lukashenko also pointed out he intended to take a closer look at the state of affairs in Belarus’ Customs. “Early next year we are going to analyze the situation in the customs service with regard to this year’s performance,” said the head of state. “You have worked long enough. In addition to simple impressions you must feel the true essence of the customs bodies. You know them perfectly well but working in a regional division differs from being at the helm of such a large agency.” According to Yuri Senko, the customs service has fulfilled all the main performance indicators. In particular, customs revenues of the central state budget exceeded the plans by 1% as of 22 September. The figure is supposed to reach 10% by 1 October. “The previously established mobile customs house, which works in the Russian direction and helps out the other customs houses, has earned a good reputation. So far the mobile customs house has managed to detect about 680 administrative violations to the tune of about Br24 million,” he added. So far this year the Belarusian customs service has detected some 24,000 administrative violations, 1,500 up from the same period of last year.
