KUALA LUMPUR: Belarus is ready to develop political and economic cooperation with Malaysia without any claims and conditions. Despite the distance of almost 9,000 kilometers, Minsk and Kuala Lumpur are expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in a wide range of spheres from education to mechanical engineering. Each of them has been discussed at today’s meeting between President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Speaker of Malaysia’s House of Representatives Pandikar Amin Mulia at the Palace of Independence. The Malaysian politician has also held talks with the chairmen of the upper and lower houses of Belarus’ Parliament. The Malaysian delegation is scheduled to visit the Belarusian-Chinese Industrial Park Great Stone and Minsk Tractor Works.
Alexander Lukashenko’s visit to Malaysia is currently being prepared for. The President requested to work out an extensive agenda covering all cooperation areas. The volume of Belarus-Malaysia mutual trade has made up 130 million dollars over the past 10 months. Belarus’ main export item is potassium fertilisers, its imports consisting of rubber, electronics and oil. Creating joint enterprises will give Belarus access to the ASEAN market with a population of over 1.5 billion people.
Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Malaysia were established almost a quarter century ago. With bilateral contacts formed at the foreign ministry level, interparliamentary ties are developing in the most active way – the delegations of Belarus and Malaysia have been holding annual meetings in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly since 2012. A new stage in the relations has been opened today with the signing of a memorandum on interparliamentary cooperation. According to Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko, the two countries have the necessary basis for enhancing the political dialogue, developing trade and economic relations and developing cultural, scientific, education and healthcare cooperation. As stressed by Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich, Belarus is ready to cooperate in all spheres. Tomorrow, Pandikar Amin Mulia is scheduled to visit several Belarusian industrial giants, the Mir Castle and Great Patriotic War Museum.
