DHAKA: Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association has demanded 0.3% tax at source for the 2016-17 fiscal year. BGMEA President Siddiqur Rahman made the call in a press briefing on Friday afternoon. The BGMEA arranged the press conference to give a reaction to the budget placed by Finance Minister AMA Muhith.
BGMEA President said: “The government’s proposal to raise the tax at source on exports from 0.6% to 1.5% is not a business friendly decision. “We urge upon the government to set it at 0.3%.” The finance minister placed the national budget for the FY17 in Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.
Currently, the apparel makers and other export-oriented sectors pay 0.60% tax at source. In the last budget, the government increased it to 1%, but later it was reduced to 0.60% in the face of protest from the clothing product exporters.
