MOSCOW: Last year, Russia imported a total of 264 thousand tonnes of onions, which is almost exactly 100 thousand tonnes less than in 2014, when import volumes amounted to 362 thousand tonnes, reports FAMMU/FAPA.
In previous years, the most dominant supplier of onions to the Russian market was the Netherlands. In 2014, its volume of exports amounted to more than 103 thousand tonnes, while last year it reached just 19 thousand tonnes. In 2015, the largest volumes of onions have been imported from Egypt (95 thousand tonnes), China (72 thousand tonnes) and Turkey (38 thousand tonnes). There have also been some smaller volumes imported from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Iran.
