Bird flu fears: Italy bans import of all kinds of living poultry

ROME: A temporary ban on import of all kinds of living birds, whether tamed or wild, ornamental birds and their products and offal from the Republic of Italy is still effective and will continue till the epidemic situation regarding the bird flu changes, the Ministry of Environment and Water has affirmed.

The ministry had slapped the ban following a report issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), which reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N8 strain of avian influenza in the country.
