BlackBerry Passport black & gold edition, only 50 world-wide units made

LONDON: Often these days the term ‘limited edition’ is stuck on anything that’s made in quantities of less than about a million, but the newly launched black and gold BlackBerry Passport is a truly limited edition device, with only 50 units being made in total.

It adds a gold coloured steel frame to BlackBerry’s unusual device, leaving not only the edge gold but also the strips between each row of keys and the contrast of gold on black undeniably looks good. Plus you can flaunt the fact that it’s a limited edition device as that fact along with the production number is engraved along the edge.

Just to add a bit more luxury it comes with a Valextra cover made from soft calf leather with Valextra “costa” lacquered piping.

Other than that it’s exactly the same as the standard BlackBerry Passport, with a 4.5-inch 1440 x 1440 touchscreen with a pixel density of 453 pixels per inch, a three-row QWERTY keyboard, a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera, a 3450mAh battery, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot and support for 4G and NFC.

Of course it costs more than the standard version coming in at $999 in Canada (around £537) or $899 in the US (roughly £600). Presumably if you live elsewhere you’d be able to import it but the bad, albeit unsurprising news, is that it’s already sold out.

BlackBerry seemed pretty set on only making 50 but there is the option to be notified when it’s back in stock, so you never know, we might see more, but if you really want one you might have more luck keeping an eye on eBay, just be ready to pay significantly more than they retailed for.
