BMW Convertible, Audi Cabriolet, Volkswagen and Mini Cooper Cabrio available in considerable prices

BMW 2 Series Convertible

Replacing the 1 Series Convertible, it adopts BMW’s new naming scheme and comes in three variants, including the M235i performance model. Roof operates in 20 seconds.

Audi A3 Cabriolet

Very well executed drop-top based on the award-winning A3. Roof operates in 20 seconds and five specs are offered up to the fast S3, with 210kW of power and all-wheel drive.

Drivelines 1.4, 1.8 or 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrols or 2.0-litre diesel, all turbocharged. Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, double-clutch transmissions.

Price range $47,600 (1.4 TFSI Attraction) to $70,500 (S3 2.0TFSI) plus on-road costs.

Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet

Based on the previous generation Golf, the Cabrio arrived three years ago and eventually displaced the similar Eos. Super-quick roof opens in just 9 seconds up to 30km/h.

Driveline turbocharged 118kW 1.4-litre four-cylinder drives the front wheels via a seven-speed double-clutch transmission.

Price $40,390 plus on-road costs.

Mini Cooper Cabrio

Third-generation Coupe debuted last year but the new Cabrio is another 18 months away. Meanwhile, the outgoing car delivers a roof that opens in 15 seconds at 30km/h or less and two models, Cooper or Cooper S.

Drivelines A 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine drives the front wheels, developing 90kW in Cooper, 135kW in S. Six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

Price range $40,350 (Cooper manual) to $51,150 (Cooper S automatic) plus on-road costs.
