Broadening tax net: 200 govt officers to get FBR notices

KARACHI: In a bid to broaden the tax net, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to serve notices to the government officers on high level positions and earning millions of rupees.

According to the details, on the directive of the higher authorities Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has now decided to serve notices to 100 government officers who are not registered and are not filing the tax returns.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has also decided to serve notices to 2,000 real estate builders earning billions of rupees.

Broadening the tax net department has urged the citizens of Sindh province to file tax returns and pay taxes so that to avoid any action. People receiving notices of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) may face problems or their bank accounts can be freeze in second attempt.

Earlier, for enhancing tax net, FBR decided to bring people who hold luxurious and expensive properties in Karachi whereas the hotels and ‘chai’ corners will also be served notices to pay tax.

The higher authorities of Broadening of Tax Base (BTB) Zone Karachi have devised a strategy to launch a comprehensive campaign to bring the potential taxpayers into the tax net. The measures shall be taken in the line of the directions given by Chief Commissioner Regional Tax Office-II Karachi.

Shopping hubs in the city like Zamzama, Hydri, Khada Market as well as commercial area of DHA will have to be surveyed to identify the potential taxpayers and to locate non filers.
