EL CENTRO: Border Patrol agents seized 45 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $700,000 from a compartment on the rear floorboard of a SUV attempting to cross the border at the Highway 86 checkpoint.
A Border Patrol canine alerted agents to the rear door and rear seat of a Honda Pilot, where they discovered 12 packages wrapped in cellophane material located in an aftermarket compartment in the rear floorboard, officials said.
The male driver, a 40-year-old United States citizen, and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
Last fiscal year, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents seized more than 148 pounds of cocaine.
