Border guards seize more guns in southern Ontario than anywhere else in Canada

OTTAWA: Along with massive loads of drugs, cash and other illegal items, border officers in southern Ontario seized more guns in the last half of 2015 than anywhere else in Canada.

The Canada Border Services Agency’s southern Ontario region includes Sarnia, London, Fort Erie, Niagara Falls and Windsor.

Officers in that region made 678 drug seizures in the last half of 2015, including 26 cocaine seizures totalling nearly 84 kilograms.

In that same period, officers also made 140 tobacco seizures, 321 alcohol seizures, 348 prohibited weapons seizures and 115 firearms seizures with a total of 163 guns. The CBSA said more guns were seized in the southern region in that time frame than anywhere else in Canada.

Officers also seized $1.8 million in cash, $100,000 worth of undeclared art and china, and improperly declared vehicles worth more than $539,000.
