Bounced cheques: RTO-I registers FIRs against Ifran Industries, Irfan Brothers

LAHORE: The Regional Tax Office (RTO-I) has registered first information reports (FIRs) against the owners of two steel mills who presented cheques to the RTO-I that later bounced.

An FIR was registered against the owner of Irfan Industries, Malik Irfan Siddique, in the Old Anarkali Police Station, while another FIR against the owner of Irfan Brothers, Malik Zahid Hussain, was registered in Nawan Kot Police Station.

After lodging the FIR, the police raided his house in Model Town, but the accused was not present at his home. Zahid Hussain’s son Umair told police that his father was abroad.

It is pertinent to mention here that two days ago, cheques given by Irfan Industries and Irfan Brothers bounced in the banks. A cheque of Rs 5.1 million given by Irfan Siddique and two cheques given by the Irfan Brothers of Rs 5.4 million and Rs 5.2 million bounced.

Both the steel mills are tax defaulters of millions of rupees, and they presented cheques to the Regional Tax Office-I when the office demanded tax form the mill owners. Further proceedings are still in progress.
