“There has been a fall in exports of bovine meat in 2015-16 on account of reasons like restriction for imports through Vietnam by China, erosion of price competitiveness due to devaluation of Brazilian currency and disturbances in importing markets – Syria, Yemen,” she said. She said the government is taking steps to increase exports of meat and meat products.

Replying to a separate question, Sitharaman said the manufacturing sector recorded a growth of 17 per cent in May 2014 to February to USD 28.24 billion. In a separate reply, she said an amount of USD 19.27 billion has been received in the manufacturing sector through FDI equity inflows since the inception of Make in India programme (during October 2014 to February).
