DOHA: Brazil exported $5.79bn worth of products to the region during the first half of 2015. Exports to Qatar grew significantly at 28.89 percent from $152m in the H1 of 2014 to $195m over the same period in 2015.
The UAE presented an increase of 7.91 per cent to $1.289bn in 2015 from 2014’s $1.194bn. Saudi Arabia was at the second place with an 8.93 percent increase in its imports from Brazil to $1.29bn in 2015 from $1.18bn in 2014. Exports to Egypt, Algeria, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait touched $915m, $484m, $303m, $169m, and $111m, respectively.
Top exported products from Brazil to the Arab Nations were meat; sugar; ores, slag and ash; and cereals. Meats generated revenues of $1.85bn in H1 of 2015, an increase of 2.75 percent from $1.80bn for the same period in 2014. Sugar, on the other hand, earned $1.27bn, followed by ores, slag and ash collectively worth $757m. Cereals garnered $160m. Other products included machinery; iron and steel products; and spices, coffee and tea, Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce said yesterday.
“This export performance reinforces the already thriving trade relations between the region and Brazil, which is further strengthened with the support of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. Throughout the H1 of 2015, we have facilitated business meetings and travel opportunities for traders from the Arab Nations to Brazil, enabling them to explore further possibilities for expanding trading ties. We are upbeat that the momentum will be sustained throughout the current year,” said Dr Michel Alaby, Secretary General and CEO, Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
