BRASÍLIA: Brazilian mobile phone imports in July amounted to USD 37 million (USD 35 million from China), compared to USD 14 million a year earlier, representing an increase of 163 percent, according to figures published by the Brazilian Electrical and Electronics Industry Association (Abinee).
This contributed to a 0.6 percent increase in total telecom equipment imports during the month. Meanwhile, exports of telecommunications products dropped by 14.4 percent, from USD 19.7 million in July 2015 to USD 16.9 million this year. The IT sector saw an 8 percent growth in exports, from USD 25.9 million to USD 28.1 million.
