BRASILIA: According to data collected by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), 395,700 tonnes were shipped, a performance 30 per cent higher than total exports in the same month of 2014.

The data includes whole chicken products, cuts, salted meat, processed and embedded products.

The shipments generated revenues of 2.1 billion Brazilian Real in revenue. This figure is another record high – 52.3 per cent higher than that obtained in June 2014. In US dollars, the result was 9.3 per cent higher, totalling US $685 million.

According to the CEO of ABPA, Francisco Turra, the largest volume exported by the sector in one month previously was 381,000 tonnes, in July 2014.

“Also, for the first time, exports broke the barrier of 2 billion Real in monthly performance. This is the result of the work we have promoted in our industry, along with the government, for the opening of new markets and the expansion of capacity of shipments from other importers, such as China, combined with the maintenance of health status,” he said.

The record export balance of June reversed the lower results that shipments had registered in the first five months of 2015. As the numbers of ABPA, exports of poultry meat amounted to 1.99 million tonnes in the first half of 2015, a performance 2 per cent higher than last year.

“Several of our major importers were the main drivers of this performance, as is the case of Saudi Arabia, Japan, China, the United Arab Emirates Russia and Venezuela. Overall, there was growth in virtually all markets, confirming the predictions of ABPA and pointing to a second positive half,” said the vice president for poultry, Ricardo Santin.
