BRASILIA: The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil (Mapa) published in the Official Journal of the European Union the requirements to allow imports of strawberry plants (Fragaria ananassa) produced in Spain and grapes (Vitis vinifera) in natura from Portugal.
According to reports, the standards set are based on the specific risk analysis to protect the country from the introduction of pests.
Thus, shipments of these products must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate attesting the absence of quarantine pests of importance to Brazil.
Luis Rangel, director of Plant Health form the Ministry of Agriculture, said that shipments would also be inspected at the point of entry.
“Suspicious shipments will be sampled and the samples collected will be sent for analysis in official laboratories or laboratories accredited by Mapa.”
