BRASÍLIA: Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Financials sectors led shares lower. At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.86%. The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA:UGPA3), which rose 2.92% or 2.10 points to trade at 74.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Ambev SA (SA:ABEV3) added 2.53% or 0.47 points to end at 19.03 and Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) was up 0.96% or 0.22 points to 23.17 in late trade. The worst performers of the session were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which fell 6.84% or 0.52 points to trade at 7.08 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 6.43% or 0.29 points to end at 4.22 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) was down 5.66% or 1.00 points to 16.67.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 257 to 97 and 29 ended unchanged. The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 5.86% to 31.98. Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.49% or 18.61 to $1229.89 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 4.87% or 2.33 to hit $45.49 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 1.51% or 2.07 to trade at $135.05. USD/BRL was up 0.55% to 3.1822, while EUR/BRL rose 1.46% to 3.4954. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.66% at 98.60.
