SAO PAULO: The Brazilian air force intercepted a small aircraft carrying 350 kilos (770 pounds) of cocaine paste, authorities said Tuesday.
The plane was detected Monday night flying over Mato Grosso state, which borders Bolivia, and later forced to land in Araçatuba, a city in Sao Paulo state, the air force said in a statement.
Air force fighter jets fired warning shots at the suspect aircraft to force the pilot to heed instructions to land, according to the statement.
The two people aboard the aircraft were detained and accused of international drug smuggling, police sources told the news Web site G1.
Authorities said the cocaine paste seized had a street value of 7 million reais ($1.8 million).
