SAO PAULO: Brazilian coffee exports dropped in May from a year earlier as sales abroad of the robusta variety of beans plummeted, exporters group Cecafe said Friday.
Total exports fell 17.4% in May to 2.4 million 132-pound bags, the group said. Exports of the arabica variety fell 4.8% to 2.1 million bags in the period. Sales abroad of robusta beans fell 83.7% to 66,868 bags. A drought in areas that produces most of Brazil’s robusta beans has cut production of the variety.
