‘Brazilian exports of carbon steel products spikes 386.5% in July’

BRASÍLIA: Brazilian exports of carbon steel sheet products in July spiked 386.5% from the year-ago month to 304,402 mt, foreign trade ministry data showed Wednesday.

Brazil exported 62,565 mt of carbon steel sheet products in July 2014, according to the ministry, which is known as MDIC.

Hot-rolled coil exports reached 237,019 mt, up 454.1% from 42,771 mt in the year-ago month. Cold-rolled coil exports were 36,884 mt, up 323.2% from 8,716 mt a year ago. Hot-dipped galvanized exports totaled 30,499 mt, up 175.3% from 11,078 mt.

Total exports were valued at $135.62 million FOB, up 232.2% from $40.83 million FOB a year ago. HRC shipments only were valued at $98.23 million FOB, up 315.5% from $23.64 million FOB in the year-ago month. CRC shipments were up 211.9% to $18.92 million FOB from $6.06 million FOB. Exports of HDG were valued at $18.46 million FOB, up 66% from $11.12 million FOB.

January-July, Brazil exported 1.3 million mt of flat steel products, 172.1% more than in the same period a year ago. These exports were valued at $687.6 million FOB, 126.7% above the $303.32 million FOB in January-July 2014.
