Brazilian iron ore exports to China swell in Jan

BRASÍLIA: Exports of Brazilian iron ore to China during the first month of the year increased 36.5% year-on-year to 16.2Mt as revenue jumped some 244% to US$874mn, foreign trade department Secex reported.

Manganese ore shipments to the Asian giant rose 53.2% to 107,259t in the period and revenue soared 705% to US$30.4mn, Secex said.

Meanwhile, revenue from ferro-niobium exports to China surged 173% to US$44.3mn as volumes increased 192% to 2,245t.

Copper cathode sales brought in US$11.6mn, down 76.2% year-on-year, with volumes slumping to 2,009t from 10,711t in January 2016.

Bauxite shipments increased 83.7% to 351,380t, and rose 68.5% in terms of revenue to US$8.72mn. Ferronickel exports to China dropped 45.9% to US$9.48mn and decreased 52.4% in volume to 3,544t, the Secex figures show.
