BRASILIA: The Brazilian Navy officially received hydrographic multipurpose research vessel (Navio de Pesquisa Hidroceanográfico: NPqHo) Vital de Oliveira (H39) in Rio de Janeiro.
The ship was built in China by Guangzhou Hantong Shipbuilding and Shipping, according to an approximately BRL162 million (USD50.7 million) contract firmed in 2013. Norwegian company Northern Research Shipping handed over the vessel to the Brazilian Navy in Singapore on 24 March 2015.
The acquisition scheme was established through a joint agreement implemented by the Brazilian Navy and Brazil’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Ministry with support from local energy companies Petrobras and Vale.
