BRASÍLIA: Brazil’s installed wind power generation capacity in February 2016 has increased by 50.1% compared to a year back, reaching 8,296 MW, according to a bulletin published by the government on Friday. The latest issue of the Monthly Monitoring Electric System Bulletin, also shows that Brazil’s total electric power generation installed capacity amounted to 142,179 MW at the end of February.
A total of 7,386 MW of new energy capacity has been added to the Brazilian power mix in one year. Hydropower was the most deployed source with 2,809 MW, followed by wind with a contribution of 2,770 MW. Thermal and solar power were next with 1,779 MW and 8 MW, respectively.
Brazil’s Monthly Monitoring Electric System Bulletin is a document prepared by the Ministry of Mines and Energy that includes updated and consolidated information about the country’s energy sector.
