BRENT: NASA’s Dawn spacecraft sent captivating views and thrilling information’s, taking us in an amazing journey of knowing dwarf planet Ceres, close and upfront. “Ceres continues to amaze, yet puzzle us, as we examine our multitude of images, spectra and now energetic particle bursts” Chris Russell, Chief collaborator of NASA’s Dawn project explained his amusement in an euphoric ton at European Planetary Science Conference in Nantes this week.
Orbiting the dwarf planet at a 915-mile altitude, Dawn spacecraft mission has provided us with topographic maps of Ceres. A color coded topographic map was released this week presenting more than a dozen approved names of different features on Ceres. Names were proposed and approved by the Astronomical association.
All names are essentially eponyms representing Earths multifaceted culture. Honoring the Abkhazian harvest goddess, Jaja was named after; Ernutet is representing the Egyptian harvest goddess. The mesmerizing 12 km length diameter mountain near Ceres North Pole is named after Ysolo Mons. Ysolo Mons is the greatest Albanian Festival.
Ceres is the largest object and is one of the most baffling beauties that we ever came across. It is also the largest object in the asteroid belt between mars and Jupiter. After inspecting images of Ceres thoroughly, NASA thinks that now we have reached in a definite end regarding the puzzling reflecting bright spots from Ceres. NASA’s Dawn project team guided by Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) announced that the brightest spot on mysterious Ceres which were initially thought to be ice is nothing but huge deposit of salt. Russell said “We believe that this is a huge salt deposit,” “We know it’s not ice and we’re pretty sure it’s salt, but we don’t know exactly what salt at the present time.”
