British-built Honda Civic 5-door hatchbacks to hit shelves in Atlantic, North America

LONDON: Honda is planning on gearing up towards British-built Honda Civic five-door hatchbacks all throughout the Atlantic and into North American showrooms. This move is to be expected to help the Japanese automobile manufacturer to turn around its stressed European region. However, it is not likely to be the Civic hatch that is expected by the public.

Looking at the Honda product lifecycle, the UK version of Honda Civic hatchbacks models that is expected to fly overseas to the US in 2016 will be the next generation’s favorite. Nevertheless, it would not make any sense to extend the current-gen Civic life that long. As a substitute, it is more possible that the Honda be a global Civic for all the world markets, the same as Ford has done with their Focus, Digital Trends reported.

Honda which was once tied up with England’s Rover, has been operating a factory in Swindon, England, for the past 30 years.

The company was heavily hit by the economic crisis which sent shock waves through the Old Continent a couple of years ago and while the sales have been declining gradually since then. The Swindon factory has the capability to manufacture up to 250,000 cars each year however it only manages to churn out 100,000 units at best.

Honda is planning to import around 30K to 40K Honda units per year which is a relatively big volume for a hyper-niche car like the Civic Type R. The Honda Civic Type R is the same model that was unveiled in Geneva which has the 305-HP, turbocharged, flared, be-winged wicken car that Honda claims can easily slaughter the Nordschleife in 7:50.63, according to Road and Track.
