BRUSSELS: A British couple was detained in Belgium after attempting to smuggle six people across the English Channel to Britain, the News Agency of Belga report said on Monday.
The six undocumented people were discovered hiding in a caravan that the couple drove onto a ferry in the Belgian coastal village of Zeebrugge, the report said, citing the prosecutor’s office.
Where the six people came from originally had not yet been determined. An arrest warrant was issued for the 53-year-old man and his 37-year-old wife.
Britain is taking great efforts to prevent illegal immigration, especially via northern France, where people often attempt to reach the country via ferries or through the Eurotunnel.
