Broadening of tax base to bring ease for registered taxpayers: Aijaz

HYDERABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Inland Revenue Services (IRS) Hyderabad Chief Commissioner Syed Aijaz Mehmood has said that all out efforts were being made to broaden the tax net so that maximum revenue could be generated for the welfare of the people.

Addressing the industrialists and traders here at the secretariat of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) on Tuesday, he said that out of 200 million population only one million people of the country were registered in the tax net which results in the burden of new taxes on the shoulder of old taxpayers.

He said that bringing more wealthy persons into the tax net will bring ease for old taxpayers and enhance the resource base to meet the rising expenditures. He said that the FBR had refunded Rs 55 million and if the traders have any complaint, the same will be resolved, he assured.

About essential sales tax registration, he said that it is necessary for those retailers who have a turn-over of Rs 0.5 million.

President HCCI Goharullah in his welcome address briefed the Chief Commissioner about the problems being faced by the traders and industrialists in respect of paying taxes.

Among others, Senior Vice President HCCI Turab Ali Khoja, Vice- President Nawab Ahmed Khanzada and Vice President and Regional Incharge FPCCI Sindh Muhammad Ikram Rajput were also present on the occasion.
