LONDON: The largest study that has been conducted on ancient DNA reveals that Asians and Europeans dating 5,000 years ago had been light-skinned and lactose intolerant in general.
This study has also established that Bronze Age of Europe and Asia, 3,000 to 5,000 years ago had been a vastly dynamic period which involved large-scale human migration all through the region.
Lead author Morten Allentoft of the University of Copenhagen’s Natural History Museum and his colleagues said that these activities had been “responsible for shaping major parts of present-day demographic structure in both Europe and Asia.”
From all across European and Asian regions, researchers have sequenced genomes from 101 ancient humans that have been unearthed for studying. This was the first time such a big sample set had been studied and enhanced methods of genome sequencing has helped further for clarifying the data to a great extent.
