BROWNSVILLE: A young Brownsville woman is in federal custody charged with trying to smuggle more than a quarter million dollars worth of cocaine.
According to federal court documents, 23-year-old Trinidad Rosas drove across the Gateway International Bridge on Wednesday with three underage boys in the backseat of a white 2003 Toyota Camry.
During a secondary inspection, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say they discovered 15 packages of cocaine hidden in the sedan that totaled 37.3 pounds. The drug has a street value of $287,640.
Homeland Security Investigations Special Agents say Rosas admitted she knew she was smuggling the drugs. Rosas is in the custody of the U.S. Marshal and is scheduled to be back in court next week.
