BSF seizes ‘FICN’

KOLKATA: The Border Security Force (BSF) seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of face value Rs 15,85,000 close to the Indo-Bangladesh border near Kaliachak in Malda on Saturday. The FICN was thrown across the border by Bangladeshi criminals to their Indian counterparts. The Indian criminals fled on being challenged.

“Around 1.30 am on Saturday, troops of the Sasani Border Outpost in the Kaliachak police station area of Malda received information of an effort to smuggle FICN into India. The troops planned a special operation near BOP Sasani BSF troops laid a special operation near the BOP Sasani, under Police Station Kaliachawk, Distt- Malda. Before long, suspicious movement was noticed on the other side of the International Border. Taking advantage of poor visibility, they threw a plastic bag across the fence and fled. Miscreants from the Indian side attempted to collect the bag but ran away towards the nearby village on being challenged by the troops,” a senior officer said.

On opening the bag, the special operation party found FICN bundles. While there were 1,185 notes of Rs 1,000 denomination, 800 were of Rs 500 denomination. They were wrapped in plastic cover. The fake notes were handed over to the Kaliachak police station.
