LONDON: South Bucks is in the top 10 in the UK for the number of new businesses started in the area so far this year.

In the first six months of 2015, 544 companies were set up in the local authority according to data from Companies House, the UK’s official registrar of businesses.

This is the equivalent of 79.4 businesses for every 10,000 people living in the local authority which is the ninth highest number for any area of the UK outside of London.

Across Buckinghamshire as a whole 2,695 businesses have registered with Companies house so far in 2015 which is the equivalent of 51.6 per 10,000 of the people who live in the area.

This is much better than the UK average of 48.9 per 10,000 people.

Aylesbury Vale had the fewest number of new businesses starting in Buckinghamshire relative to the size of its population with 858 businesses starting at a rate of 26.7 for every 10,000 people.

But even this figure was only marginally lower than the average for England when London was excluded.

Across the UK as a whole, just over 316,000 businesses have registered with Companies House in the first half of 2015 at a rate of 48.9 per 10,000 people.

England had more business starts per head than any of the other three UK nations with 52.8 per 10,000 people and 40.4 per 10,000 once London is excluded.

Scotland was the next most likely place for businesses to set up shop with 33.1 per 10,000 starting between January and June this year while in Wales it was 25.6 per 10,000 and in Northern Ireland it was 20.3 per 10,000.
