TORONTO: Bugatti sold the 450th and final Veyron model, which it tagged ‘La Finale’ in its 10-year production line.

The final Bugatti Veyron built with a 1,200 horsepower would be on display at the upcoming 2015 Geneva motor show. Veyrons were sold for an average price of about $2.6m (€2.3m) each.

Alongside it on the Geneva stage in the first week of March will be the first Bugatti Veyron. Reports add that the automaker is not revealing the identity of the purchaser of the last ever Veyron, except to say that it is a “customer from the Middle East”.

Bugatti had said at the inception of the production of the Veyron model that it would produce only 450 of the car after which it would stop the production. Now that the final one has been sold, this implies that anyone interested in buying a Veyron henceforth would have to buy a used one. The car is rated as the most powerful and fastest roadster on earth considering its improved driving quality and personality.

“Although new Veyrons will no longer be rolling out of Bugatti’s Molsheim factory, they will likely remain in the public eye as part of exclusive collections, fetching ridiculous prices at auction for decades to come,” the report added.

Bugatti’s parent company, Volkswagen, revealed that when it proposed the idea of building the “ultimate hypercar” more than 15 years ago, some believed it was purely a flight of fancy and a disaster.

In the 4-part edict it issued to its engineers, as published on Businessinsider.com, Bugatti said in building the car, the engineers must ensure that, “The car must has more than 986 horsepower and be able to exceed 250 miles per hour. It must be able to accelerate to 62 miles per hour from a standstill in less than 3 seconds and be stylish, comfortable, and luxurious enough for a ritzy trip to the opera.

Bugatti President, Wolfgang Dürheimer, said, “In the Veyron, Bugatti has created an automobile icon and established itself as the world’s most exclusive supercar brand. The Veyron is unique in many respects even ten years after its launch.

“So far no other carmaker has managed to successfully market a product that stands for unique top-class technical performance and pure luxury in a comparable price/volume range.”
